“Stay Strong • Resist” Mittens are beautifully handmade by Linda. One size only; fits most average teen and adult sizes.
Please Note: Each pair of handcrafted mittens is completely unique in color and design, so we cannot honor color/design requests.
Keep Your Hands Toasty While You Protest!
These colorful mittens are not only warm but FUN! Like humans in love, each mitten may not precisely “match” its mate, but they clearly belong together.
The mittens are upcycled from wool and wool-blend sweaters, with wrist cuffs made from sweater cuffs and waistbands. Each mitten is fleece-lined for added coziness and features a custom wood button that says “STAY STRONG” and “RESIST.”
Since each pair is unique, please allow us to surprise you. The mittens we send you may not precisely match your favorite winter coat, but they’re sure to get attention and show that you’re unafraid to stand for justice. Order a pair for yourself, plus extras as gifts for your Progressive friends and family members!
One size fits most adults and teens. A single pattern is used for all the mittens, although different wools and wool blends stretch differently. The pattern front measures 4-3/4 x 9-1/2 before the seams are stitched. After the cuffs are added, the mittens are a generous size that fits most adult and teen hands.
Note to those with allergies: Like the sweaters, the fleece used in the mitten linings has been thoroughly washed in a mild, unscented detergent that’s free of harsh chemicals.
Meet the Maker!
Linda has always enjoyed transforming clothing items. In the 1970s, she patched and embroidered her faded blue jeans and incorporated old neckties and other cast-off apparel into colorful crazy quilts. Years later, following her retirement from teaching and writing, she resumed her sewing hobby, this time transforming friends’ once-loved sweaters into fleece-lined mittens. With the scraps from those projects, along with additional used sweaters, she expanded her mitten-making pastime and began offering her creations for sale.
Linda lives in the upper Midwest, where she enjoys hiking in pine-scented woods, and where she votes and resists injustice.
